What I really enjoyed about the book and what got me hooked was following Tamani's story. I felt the story would've been better without the romance. I felt it happened quite fast and in such a typical way. I didn't like the romance between her and Shawn. ![]() Tamani helps her realize this which makes for great character development. But throughout the story she grows up quickly because she has to. She was reckless, stubborn, and judgmental. We also get introduced to Rowen (Tamani's niece). We are remembering the lives that had fallen during the war in Avalon. So ten years has passed and a lot has changed since then. ![]() To be brought back into this wonderful world of faeries has made my bookish heart soar with joy. I got into this series when I was sixteen and I finished it four years ago. I never thought I would be brought back into the world of Avalon. ![]()

Overall this was an okay read but a disappointing follow up to Love in the Time of Global Warming. They make very poor decisions and treat each other poorly, there isn’t much heroic about this story. In fact I flat out disliked them throughout much of the story. The characters are not nearly as easy to engage with as they were in the first book either. ![]() The beautiful description is there, but our character feel downtrodden and tired…they aren’t finding beauty in this desolate world like they did in the first book. I always enjoy Block’s beautiful sparkle in her writing, but that just wasn’t present in this book. The plot is very straight-forward and predictable, not nearly as dreamy and ambiguous as Love in the Time of Global Warming. The story was written to loosely follow Virgil’s Aeneid.
